The first phase of Jaipur Metro will be thrown open to public by December after a delay of few months.
The 9.2 km-long line between Mansarovar and Chandpole will begin its commercial operations after the completion of some work in December, Jaipur Metro CMD N C Goyal said today after the board meeting.
The Phase I was to begin commercial services some time in August but the Delhi Metro company will do finishing work at railway stations and complete signal telecom at its Mansarovar depot in the next two months, he said.
During this period, the Metro would also conduct the exercise of "rolling stones" to check that every coach in Metro is fit for public, Goyal said.
After this work, the Jaipur Metro will begin "dry run" (without passengers) for 30 to 45 days in November to ensure coordination of all stations on the Phase-I route, he said.
So far the JMRC has spent Rs 1,950 cr in Phase-I, he said, adding, the Phase-II on Chandpole to Bari Chaupar's underground tunnel work was underway.
The total cost of both the phases was Rs 3,149 cr.
On the apprehension of damage to heritage structures in Jaipur and the environment in the walled city where the Phase II was underground, the JMRC Board was apprised that there would be no danger or damage at any level, CMD claimed quoting the minutes.
