The nuclear power plant at Jaitapur village in coastal Ratnagiri district won't have any impact on fishing, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar today said.
During question hour in the Legislative Assembly, Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai said the project is located in the ecologically sensitive coastal area, and local fishermen feared adverse impact.
He demanded that government should declare the fishermen as project-hit people so that they get the compensation.
But Pawar said the project would not affect fishing.
Land acquisition process was complete and state was pushing for speedy construction of the plant, he said.
