Jalpaiguri 'middleman' rescued from potato traders in Punjab

A Jalpaiguri middleman was rescued from the cusstody of a group of potato traders of Jalandhar in Punjab today who alleged he had cheated them of Rs 4 lakh, a police officer said.
The Jalpaiguri middleman Dulal Ghosh was finally rescued after the West Bengal police was handed over a video clip by the middleman's wife where the trader's lobby in Jalandhar threatened he will not be released unless the said amount of Rs 4 lakh was cleared forthwith, the officer said.
The Jalpaiguri police contacted their Jalandhar counterparts on receipt of the complaint by Ghosh's wife Rita and Ghosh was rescued from his captors, the officer said adding it was a case of confinement for realising dues and not kidnap.

He will be brought back to Dhupguri police station here in next two days, the officer said.
Ghosh, who used to sell potato from cold storage to the wholesalers had gone to Punjab to discuss a deal and had reportedly past allegations of cheating and intimidation pending against him at local police station, the officer said.
He also drove the ambulance of a local organisation.
