A group of Jamia Millia Islamia students called off their hunger strike on Monday after the administration gave them written assurance to meet their demands of appointing Turkish teachers and shifting language programme to MMAJ Academy of International Studies.
According to the students, the administration had accepted their demands verbally last week, but they wanted a written assurance.
The students of the Faculty of Humanities and Languages demanded that Turkish teachers be appointed and the language programme be shifted from the existing faculty to MMAJ Academy of International Studies.
One of the students started a hunger strike on Saturday and was joined by 16 others on Monday. By the evening, they received a written reply from the administration.
The letter said the classes of Turkish languages programme shall continue to be held in the Humanities and Languages building but will be supervised by the director, MMAJ Academy of International Studies.
The students called off the hunger strike after receiving the letter from the administration. Five Turkish teachers joined on Monday, said a varsity spokesperson.
