Jammers installed in jail to stop cell phone use by inmates

To check criminal activities carried out from prison using mobile phones, six jammers have been installed in the district jail here at a cost of Rs three crore, officials said.
The move comes after several mobile phones had been seized from the district jail.
There were complaints that inmates were making calls to carry out criminal activities from the jail premises.
With the installation of the technology, all cell phones, including those belonging to jail officials, will be jammed. Only landline telephones can now be used within the premises, Jail Superintendent Rakesh Singh said.
