"My son Saqlain has got selected to junior Indian volleyball team. He was selected at a Sports Authority of India (SAI) trial camp at Gandhinagar in Gujarat from June 17-18," Saqlain's father Tariq Khan told PTI from Poonch today.
Khan, who is a physical education teacher in the state department of Youth Services and Sports, said "he was the only boy from Jammu and Kashmir to get selected among a total of 30 boys from all over India."
"It is a proud moment for the state of Jammu and Kashmir that after cricketer Parvez Rasool represented India earlier in the month," President Poonch Civil Society for Art & Literature, Liaqat Jafri, said.
Jafri said "the boy comes from farflung area of Poonch which is an example that youth of J&K want to excel not only on the national level but also on the international level. So they need support of Central Government".
He won a bronze medal in the last year's Junior National Championship in Rajasthan.
