The Railway Police in Jammu has launched a drive against the practice of begging in and around the railway station here, a senior official said today.
"A drive has been initiated to curb the menace of begging in and around Jammu railway station," SSP Railway Jammu, Suram Singh said.
"Today 11 beggars were rounded off from the railway station and produced in front of the Executive Magistrate Jammu after completing all the legal formalities" the SSP said.
He said that action against beggars and unauthorized hawkers would help reduce the incidents of crime including theft in and around the railway station.
"It would not only ward off crime, but would also help improve the image of Jammu in the eyes of the people who use railway to visit the state," he said.
