Jamshedpur today experienced the hottest day in April in the last five years as the mercury shot up to 45.2 degrees Celsius.
While the maximum temperature was five degrees above normal, the minimum temperature settled at 25.9 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, the MeT office said.
The maximum temperature yesterday was 45.1 degrees Celsius.
The streets of the city wore a deserted look during day time as people preferred to remain indoor owing to the heat wave.
The East Singhbhum district administration have made arrangements to supply water tankers in areas facing water scarcity while power supply was reportedly erratic in some pockets.
Some social organisations have been providing water through tankers in affected areas of the city.
The heatwave has forced school authorities to reschedule their timing for the second time in the last fortnight and decided to dismiss classes by 10.45 AM.
Earlier, majority of schools had rescheduled their timing in the first week of April saying classes would be over by 11.30 AM.
