A bench of justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Siddharth Mridul issued a notice to South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) seeking its response by January 23, 2015 on the public interest litigation filed by Resident Welfare Association (RWA) representing the people of Jangpura A, Jangpura B and Bhogal localities.
The RWA, in its petition filed through advocates R K Saini and Ayush Arora, has sought directions to SDMC to "forthwith stop holding of the weekly market on Tuesday in Jangpura-Bhogal area and remove, challan and seize the goods/ merchandise of the squatters immediately if found doing so in the area".
It has said the Tuesday market is held along with the regular market which results in congestion of the roads, thus causing hardship to residents of the area as well as the general public.
The plea has sought that the weekly market be allowed on Monday when the regular markets of the area are closed down.
It has also prayed that no more than 300 squatters be allowed to sell their wares on the day of the weekly market and that too from designated spots.
