Janmastami celebrated with religious fervour across Mathura

Janmastami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, was celebrated with religious fervour across Brijbhumi today amid tight security at temples and shrines in the area.
Temples in Mathura, Vrindavan, Goverdhan, Nandgaon and Gokul were richly decorated for the occasion as pilgrims from across the country thronged the temple town to offer their obeisance.
Police and para-military forces had been deployed at all important area. No untoward incident has been reported, District Magistrate Arvind Malappa Bangari said.
Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers at the Dwarkadheesh Temple, the Krishna Balram Temple (ISCKON) and the Bankey Behari Temple, and the Sri Krishna Janamsthan, he said.

The day began with the sound of 'shahnai' and drums at the temples based at Srikrishna Janmasthan today. Later, Gurusharnanand Maharaj performed the aarati of the principal deity at the Leela Manch.
Janmastami at Gokul would be celebrated in the form of Nandotsava on Aug 16
Raja Thakur Temple's head priest Bacchu Maharaj said the 'palana' (swing) for child Krishna was decorated with jewels, 'jari' (cloth woven from gold threads) and flowers.
Preparation for the Nandotsava at the Nandgaon-based Nand Baba Temple are being done, the temple's priest Sushil Goswami said.
