Jat agitation forces postponement of events in Haryana

The ongoing Jat agitation in Haryana has forced postponement of a meeting of Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samitis for conducting elections for their heads as also the state-level wrestling competitions.
Haryana State Election Commission has postponed the date of first meeting of all Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samitis and conducting the elections for President/Vice President and Chairman/Vice Chairman, which was scheduled to be held tomorrow.
The next date of first meeting will be conveyed shortly.
While stating this here today, Assistant State Election Commissioner, Haryana, Parmal Singh said several Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers (Panchayat) had brought to the notice of the Commission that law and order situation in their districts was not suitable to conduct the election on February 24.
Therefore, they had requested to postpone the schedule of the first meeting, so that these could be conducted in free, fair and peaceful manner.
In this regard, a written communication has been sent to all the Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers in the state, he added.
The Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Department has also decided to postpone till further orders the state-level Wrestling Akhara Kumar and Kesari Dangal competitions which were to be organised from today till February 25, in Mewat.
