Jat stir: Haryana govt releases Rs 65.38 cr compensation

Haryana Government has released a compensation of Rs 65.38 crore, including interim and final payments, to those people whose properties were damaged in the recent Jat quota stir in the state.
Private and government insurance companies have already made payments over Rs 12 crore to these people whose insured properties were damaged, an official spokesperson said here.
He said that the Government has so far received 2,078 claims for compensation, including 1,826 claims from urban areas and 238 from rural areas. Also, 14 of the claims were not in order.
He said, according to the claims, 1,789 properties, including 1,500 in urban and 289 in rural areas, were damaged.
He said that Rs 22.37 crore was paid as interim assistance in 1,818 cases. This included payment of Rs 20.83 crore in 1,616 cases in urban areas and Rs 1.54 crore in 202 cases in rural areas.
Thirty lives were lost during the protests. Large scale damage to property, both government and private, was caused, especially in Rohtak, Jhajjar and Sonipat which was the epicentre of the stir in February this year.
