An undertrial prisoner, who was in jail for his alleged involvement in the Jawahar Bag clashes between police and encroachers, died of cardiac arrest, said Mathura District Jail authorities.
"Initially Badhel, a resident of Sukrauli, was rushed to the police hospital but eyeing his serious condition he was referred to the District Hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors last night," Jail Superintendent P D Salonia said.
However, CMS District Hospital Amitab Pandey said, "There was no need to bring him to hospital since he was already dead. Doctor here declared him (Badhel) brought dead."
The undertrial was allegedly involved in the Jawahar Bag clashes on June 2 in which 24 people, including two policemen, were killed.
"He was booked under Sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC," police added.
