A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was injured Wednesday when a pressure bomb, laid by naxals, went off in Chhattisgarhs Bijapur district, police said.

The explosion took place in the forest near Padeda village when a team of the DRG was out on an area domination operation, a local police official told PTI.

"Constable Kamlu Hemla sustained very minor splinter injuries in the blast," he said.

When the patrolling team was on its way back, Hemla inadvertently stepped over the pressure IED (improvised explosive device) planted by naxals near Padeda, around 450km from the state capital Raipur, causing it to explode, the official said.

The injured jawan was administered first aid at the local DRG camp and his condition was "completely normal", he added.

The DRG is a locally raised force vested with the task to tackle Maoists in Chhattisgarh.

An IED is commonly used as roadside bombs.

Maoists have often resorted to the use of IEDs to inflict casualties on security personnel.

The devices sometimes are hidden underground or in bushes for years before the ultras use them in ambushes on national highways, important state roads and near the camps of security forces, according to police.
