An army jawan was today injured in small arm fire by Pakistani troops in Poonch in the latest ceasefire violation on a day when DG-level talks were held in Delhi to de-escalate border tensions.
"Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) today in the forward areas of Krishna Ghati sector," Jammu-based defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.
The ceasefire violations took place at 1700 hours. One soldier was injured in small arm fire from forward posts of Pakistan. The Indian troops retaliated appropriately, he said.
The injured soldier, identified as Lance Naik Bhupinder Singh, was evacuated and shifted to an army hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical, a police official said.
Pakistani troops had last night resorted to unprovoked firing in Bhimber Gali sector of the district, forcing Indian troops to retaliate.
Pakistan has already violated the ceasefire 11 times in September this year.
