A District Reserve Group (DRG) jawan was today killed and a civilian driver injured in two separate IED blasts triggered by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police said.
"The first blast occurred at around 11:45 AM near Maraiguda police station on the under construction Maraiguda-Golapalli road, in which the DRG jawan, identified as Makdam Joga, was killed," Sukma Additional Superintendent of Police Irfan Khan said.
A composite squad of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and DRG was patrolling the region, located around 450 km from the state capital Raipur, to ensure security for the construction work, he said.
Assistant constable Madkam Joga inadvertently stepped over alandmine, triggering the explosion, Khan said.
The IEDs were laid by Naxals, police said.
Reinforcement was rushed to the spot and the critically injured cop was evacuated to Bhadrachalam in Telangana, where he succumbed to injuries, the official said.
