Jay-Z credits drug dealing past for making him a businessman

Jay-Z believes he learnt to be a good businessman while dealing crack cocaine on the streets of Brooklyn in his early days.
The 43-year-old rapper, who is married to Beyonce and has a daughter Blue Ivy with her, managed to leave his dark past behind him to become a musical success.
"I know about budgets. I was a drug dealer. To be in a drug deal, you need to know what you can spend, what you need to re-up," the rapper told Vanity Fair.
Jay-Z said leaving that life behind is not easy and you need to have an exit plan in place.

"If you want to start some sort of barbershop or carwash - those were the businesses back then. Things you can get in easily to get out of that life. You have to have an exit strategy, because your window for dealing drugs is very small. You're going to get locked up or you're going to die," the rapper said.
