Jay-Z is now Jay Z. The musician has reportedly dropped the hyphen from his name.
Jay Z -- real name Shawn Carter --has caused a flutter on social networking sites with the end of punctuation in his name as fans and journalists joined in to discuss the change.
The 'Holy Grail' rapper's representatives have reportedly asked journalists to spell his name 'Jay Z' from now on, reported Contactmusic.
"Breaking: Jay Z has dropped the hyphen from his name, according to his label. I am not kidding. (Wish I was.)," tweeted Billboard.Com editor Joe Levy breaking the news.
The hyphen apparently disappeared around 2011 when the 43-year-old rapper released 'Watch the Throne' with Kanye West. It has not been used on iTunes since then.
It continues to appear on his album artwork, including the recently released 'Magna Carta... Holy Grail'.
