Jaya unfurls National flag at War Memorial

: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today hoisted the national flag established at the Victory War Memorial here.
After placing a wreath to the soldiers of the three Services, Jayalalithaa hoisted the tricolour at the 30.5 metre tall flag mast which has been set up at the War Memorial, an official release said.
Dakshin Bharat area General Officer, Commanding, Jagbir Singh also paid homage to the soldiers of all three Services who made sacrifice to the Nation.
Jayalalithaa was introduced to the various Heads of the Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, on the occasion.
The War Memorial was constructed to commemorate the victory of the "Allied Armies", during World War I and was erected in the memory of soldiers from the "Madras Presidency" who sacrificed their lives in various wars.
The flag mast holds aloft the 20 feet by 30 feet Tricolour and would be visible over a long distance.
It is expected to instill oneness and patriotism among the citizens and remind them about the sacrifices made by soldiers, it said.
Naval Area Commanding Officer Rear Admiral Alok Bhatnagar, Coast Guard Eastern Region IG Rajan Bargorta, Chief Secretary, P Rama Mohan Rao, Advisor to State Government, Sheila Balakrishnan and senior government officials participated in the event, it said.
