Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, serving a 10-year jail term in the teachers recruitment scam case, today moved the Delhi High Court seeking a direction to Tihar jail authorities to provide him treatment either at Ram Manohar Lohia hospital here or in Medanta hospital in Gurgaon.
An application was mentioned before the bench of justices B D Ahmed and Siddharth Mridul, which after hearing the urgency, listed the plea for tomorrow.
Advocate Amit Sahni, appearing for Chautala, pleaded with the court that his client is "suffering from various ailments including tuberculosis, peripheral neuritis, low backache, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and various other geriatric ailments".
"It is further stated that he had availed treatment from RML and Medanta, the Medicity Hospital post-conviction and all medical history of the applicant/appellant is lying with the RML Hospital or the Medanta Hospital," the petition said.
The counsel further informed that bench that Chautala wish to avoid the ordeal of undergoing a fresh series of medical tests, which cause physical and mental trauma to him more particularly due to his old age.
On January 22, 2013, a special CBI court had convicted and sentenced Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajay along with seven others to 10-year jail term each for illegally recruiting 3,206 junior teachers in 2000.
