Nitish Kumar led Janta Dal (United) today pitched for veteran Akali leader and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to head the nation.
"We want (Parkash Singh) Badal, son of a farmer, to hoist the national flag at Red Fort," said Bihar Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh who was representing Nitish Kumar led Bihar government at the Punjab Progressive Agriculture Summit here.
Singh's comment assumed significance after JD(U) severed its ties with NDA on the issue of BJP announcing Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate.
"Punjab is our elder brother. It has been feeding the nation. The state has made huge sacrifices during the freedom struggle. It is also a role model for communal harmony and peace for the country," JD(U) minister said while addressing the gathering of farmers.
During the summit, non-Congress states stayed away from the agriculture summit despite Punjab CM extending invitation to all the states in the country.
On the occasion, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav, West Bengal Agriculture Minister Moloy Ghatak and Former Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu were present.
Because of rains, the venue of summit was shifted from Chhapar Chiri at Kharar to fruit and vegetable market in Mohali at the eleventh hour.
