They said Sonai, who wanted to build a house in the plot owned by his wife, had sought electricity connection for starting construction work, and JE Chandran allegedly demanded Rs.3500 as bribe for providing the connection.
On a complaint to the Vigilance and anti-corruption, a trap was set and when Sonai handed over chemical smeared currency notes, the official was caught red-handed, police said.
He was remanded to judicial custody for 15 days today, police added.
