Jeera prices rose by Rs 395 to Rs 17,260 per quintal in futures market today after participants widened their positions backed by rising demand.
In addition, restricted supplies in the domestic spot market and some export enquiries too supported the uptrend.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for April rose Rs 395, or 2.34 per cent, to Rs 17,260 per quintal with an open interest of 1,971 lots.
Likewise, the spice for this month traded higher by Rs 315, or 1.88 per cent, to Rs 17,050 per quintal in 8,727 lots.
Traders said, speculative positions built up by participants amid pick-up in domestic as well as export demand, mainly led to the rise in jeera prices at futures trade.
