At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in May month advanced by Rs 140, or 0.84 per cent to Rs 16,725 per quintal with an open interest of 1,392 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in far-month June contracts gained Rs 85, or 0.51 per cent to Rs 16,860 per quintal in 19,539 lots.
Analysts attributed rise in jeera prices at futures trade to widening of bets by traders, driven by uptick in demand in the spot market amid restricted supplies from producing belts.
