Jeori Engineering College to be opened soon: Virbhadra Singh

The foundation stone of government engineering college at Jeori in Shimla district would be laid soon and efforts will be made to make the college functional at the earliest, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said.
Addressing public meeting at Kharahan in Nankhari block of Rampur Assembly segment today, he said that the state government has opened Industrial Training institutes (ITIs) and engineering and professional colleges to enable the youth acquire skills and become more employable.
He said Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) was functioning in Mandi and Indian Institute of Management had been sanctioned for Sirmaur districtto be set upDhaulakuan, which would open moreavenues of development and employment opportunities to the youth.
Chief Minister said that realising that roads were life-lines of the hills and essential for transportation, the government gave top priority to road construction and as a result the total road length in the state was more than 34,000 km and even the remotest and inaccessible areas of Dodra-Kwar in Shimla district and Killar in Pangi had been linked with roads.
He said that the education was another key sector in which the state has made big strides and as on today, there are more than 16,600 educational institutions, including four state and17 private universities, 94 government collegesand over 16,500 schools and the focus has now been shifted to qualitative improvement.
Making an oblique reference to demands being raised by the BJP for his ouster, Chief Minister said that "lots of efforts are being put in to displace me from the office of the Chief Minister, but I would fight the battle and come out clean like before".
There should be clean and principled politics and the elected governments should refrain from wreaking vengeance against political opponents, he said.
