Jewellery estimated at Lakhs of Rupees destroyed in fire

: Jewellery estimated at lakhs of Rupees was damaged in a fire at a jewellery showroom here today, police said.
They said the owner noticed fire and thick smoke emanating from the first floor of the shop and informed fire force personnel who rushed to the spot, broke open the shutters and fought a two hour battle to douse the flames.
Fire force personnel suspect the fire could have broken out during a sudden current surge when power was switched on this morning after a power failure last night.
The exact loss of jewellery was yet to be ascertained, they said.
