Jewellery shop looted in East Delhi; Owner shot at

Four masked robbers allegedly looted gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees from a jewelry shop after opening fire on its owner in Mansarovar area of East Delhi this evening, police said.
The injured jewellery shop owner identified as Girish Chandra Verma was admitted to a hospital with a gunshot wound in his shoulder.
The incident sparked outrage among locals as traders and public blocked the road in the area demanding arrest of the robbers. They also held police responsible for frequent incidents of loot and robberies in the area.
Senior police officers assured them of speedy investigation following which the blockade was removed.
The incident took place around 4 PM at S K Jewellers on Mandoli Road in the area. Verma, his brothers and other employees were present in the shop when four robbers entered with covered faces, police said.
"Verma was shot at by one of the robbers, when he tried to resist the robbery bid. Neighbouring shop owners and people gathered hearing the gunshot. Police was called through PCR and the injured was rushed to GTB hospital where he was stated to be out of danger," said a police officer.
The value of looted ornaments is yet to be ascertained by the victim. The robbers were not identified as their faces were found to be covered when police checked the CCTV footage of the shop.
The CCTV footage of the area was being scanned to trace the robbers who reached the targeted shop on two motorcycles, police said.
