Jewellery shop owner sent to seven-day police remand

One of the two owners of a jewellery shop, who was arrested for allegedly staging a fake robbery of their own shop, was sent to a seven-day police remand by a court here today.
"Vinod Verma has been sent to seven-day police remand by local court," Chandigarh, Station House Officer, Uday Pal Singh said today.
Verma, one of the owners of the jewellery shop in Sector 17, was arrested yesterday for "concocting" the story allegedly to claim insurance money. The other owner Rajnish was still absconding, the SHO said.
Both the owners had claimed of being looted of jewellery worth Rs 14 crore on May 1. They were booked following a "confessional statement" of the store manager.
