Jewellery stolen from conveyor belt recovered from Aligarh

A suspected conman, who claimed himself to be a staffer of Rashtrapati Bhavan, was today arrested here for allegedly stealing a couple's jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh when they travelled on an Air India flight to Delhi recently.
Identified as Ghulam Ali Nathani, the person was apprehended by a joint team of Delhi police, Air India security and Uttar Pradesh police after they raided his rented accomodation in the Civil Lines area, based on vital inputs provided by a phone SIM card data.
According to officials, on October 11 a Delhi-based couple-- Mercy Manoranjini and Subramaniam P lodged a complaint with Air India that their baggage containing Rs 5 lakh jewellery has gone missing from the conveyor belt after they landed in the national capital from Hyderabad on flight number AI-127.
AirI ndia's Executive Director (Security) and CVO B K Maurya, who was in Aligarh for the operation, confirmed the incident and receving the complaint of the couple who are residents of Green Park area in south Delhi.
"We have arrested one person from Aligarh after a long- winding probe. The bag full of jewellery has been recovered while a probe is on to ascertain the exact facts about Nathani," Maurya told PTI.
After the couple complained, the Air India security swung into action and began scanning the CCTV footage at the airport for clues. The Delhi Police at the Indira Gandhi International Airport was also alerted.
