The Journalists' Forum Assam (JFA) today urged Assam Government to enact a special law so that TV news channel employees in the state get similar benefits as under the Majithia Wage Board's recommendations for newspaper and news agency employees.
The JFA in a statement issued by its president Rupam Barua and secretary Nava Thakuria appealed to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to take initiative to help the news TV channel employees, including their journalists get similar benefits.
"Now it is time for benefiting the electronic media employees too with the guidelines of the Majithia Wage Board, which are meant only for the newspaper and news agency employees in the country," the JFA statement said.
"The State government should urgently enact a special law safeguarding the interest of news channel employees in Assam", the statement added.
The JFA, however, appreciated the state government for reconstituting a tripartite committee yesterday for ensuring and monitoring speedy implementation of Majithia Wage Board's recommendations for the benefit of newspaper and news agency employees in the State.
Assam Government has reconstituted a Tripartite Committee for ensuring and monitoring the speedy implementation of the recommendations of the Majithia Wage Board in Assam and it would submit its report within a month.
