Figurative sculptures fashioned out of dried pumpkins is the forte of painter and sculptor, Markandey Jajware from Jharkhand, who has put up for exhibit a new body of work here.
Hailing from Deoghar, Jajware whose art is known as the "Putru Krity" says he makes sculptures after collecting various images from different villages.
"The sculptures are made from pumpkin shells which are dried for over two years with various chemicals so that it becomes hard to give it the desired shape," says the artist who is currently showing at the Lalit Kala Akademi.
The artist says there is a demand for his lightweight pumpkin sculptures here as the city's people appreciated unique forms of artistic works.
The paintings on the other hand are unique giving an identification to the painter.
At the current exhibition, paintings of women, and personalities like Rabindranath Tagore and Buddha are displayed. Al of his paintings have a bark finish on them.
