Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today said it was everyone's responsibility to keep one's city clean.
Eighty per cent of diseases happen due to litter, Das said.
"If we keep our wards clean, diseases will not happen. Everyone should hate litter. We have to take a pledge that neither will we litter nor will we allow littering," an official release said quoting Das.
Referring to cleanliness of two villages of Ranchi district, the chief minister said if the people there could keep their villages clean, why not the people of the city do it.
He said depending on municipal corporation alone for clean neighbourhood would not do and people too have some responsibilities.
Stating that dustbins are being kept by the corporation, Das asked people to put litter there.
Stressing on traffic discipline to save lives, the chief minister said wearing helmets and seat belts are compulsory and action would be taken against violators.
