Jharkhand Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Saryu Rai today ordered for the suspension of an Assistant General Manager (AGM) of State Food Corporation (SFC), Angada in Ranchi district for supplying sub-standard rice.
The minister also directed the Secretary of the department, Vinay Kumar Choubey to conduct a departmental enquiry against the Ranchi District Supply Officer (DSO) and black listing of the transporter engaged for door step delivery.
In a statement issued here today, Rai said about ten days back, SFC, Angada in Ranchi has supplied rotten rice to the PDS dealers and the local people had lodged a complaint in this regard with the concerned Sub-divisional officer.
Subsequently, an enquiry committee was formed for the purpose but no action was taken in this regard even though the concerned Secretary of the department had also ordered the DSO to conduct enquiry but in vain so far.
About a dozen local residents have met the minister today and showed him the rotten rice distributed to them through the public distribution dealers.
Acting swiftly over the issue, the minister has ordered Choubey to suspend the AGM of the SFC with immediate effect, conduct a departmental enquiry against the DSO and directed to black list the transporter engaged by the department for door-step delivery.
Rai further ordered the secretary to hold Block and Distric Supply Officers responsible if any irregularities were found in the supply and quality of the foodgrain.
