JIPMER designated as apex trauma care centre for south

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), a premier central government institution here, has been designated as the apex trauma care centre for the southern states.
Director General of Health Services Jagdish Prasad announced this at the inauguration of the four-day International Summit on Emergency Medicine and Trauma Care organised by JIPMER.
He said difficult and very critical cases of trauma would be referred to JIPMER.
He said JIPMER had also been sanctioned permission to start an MD course this year in Emergency Medicine and to begin with six candidates would be admitted to the course.
Prasad also said the Centre had approved of an outlay of Rs 900 crores to enable 90 government medical college across the country to set up burns wards.
A release from JIPMER said around 100 experts from different parts of the world are attending the summit, organised in association with American Academy of Emergency Medicine in India, the Global Academy of Emergency Medicine and the JIPMER alumni association.
