JIPMER opens 'home' for cancer affected children

Centrally administered JIPMER here has opened a 'home' for the children undergoing treatment for cancer in the Regional Cancer Centre attached to the hospital in the neighbouring Kalaivanar nagar.
The home called 'SHINE' is opened in association with the Spain based JAL, a non-governmental organisation, which had engaged in various healthrelated projects including leprosy, a release from the JIPMER said today.
The home for the cancer affected children is a facility to enable the cancer affected children to stay at a place so that they could come daily for treatment.
The home would provide food besides facilitatating to continue education during the course of treatment to the children, it said.

The Regional Cancer Centre in JIPMER registered around 1400 new cases of cancer patients annually. Of them 15 per cent were paediatric cancer patients, it said.
