Union minister Jitendra Singh today inaugurated Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir and said over 12 lakh people would be benefitted by it.
He asserted that this facility would help in pacing up the process of issuance and delivery of passports and said the objective of opening POPSK is to extend passport services on a larger scale and ensure coverage of wider area.
"The development projects of the Central government are not limited only to urban areas but the rural population is also getting its due share, the minister of state in the PMO said after inaugurating the POPSK at Kathua's head post office.
The facility will bring the service closer to people's doorsteps, benefitting more than 12 lakh citizens living in Kathua and its two adjacent districts, besides reducing the waiting time for applicants considerably, Singh said.
He asked the passport office authorities to prioritise issuance of passports for students, pilgrims, infirm and other deserving people.
