JJ Abrams and Zachary Quinto are producing a film about the secret love affair between screen legends Tab Hunter and Anthony Perkins.

According to EW, the film, tentatively titled "Tab and Tony", is based on Hunter's 2005 memoir, "Tab Hunter Confidential", which explores his struggle to accept his sexual identity in Hollywood of the 1950s, when being openly gay was taboo.

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Doug Wright is attached to pen the screenplay.

While Hunter was known as a true-blue American boy on screen, thanks to "Damn Yankees", Perkins is etched in the minds of cinema lovers for his iconic portrayal of killer Norman Bates in "Psycho".

Hunter turns 87 in July. Perkins died from AIDS-related pneumonia in 1992.

Allan Glaser, Hunter's longtime partner, and publicist Neil Koenigsberg are also producing the Paramount project.
