The chief minister laid a wreath on the graves of the martyrs at Naqshband Sahib in the old city as a 21-gun salute and guard of honour was presented in memory of the 22 persons killed in the firing incident on this day in 1931.
Abdullah also offered 'Fateha' (prayers) for the martyrs.
Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar, Public Enterprises Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon and Chief Minister's political advisor Devender Rana also paid their respects.
Ruling National Conference had decided to observe the martyrs' day with simplicity in view of the destruction of Dastageer Sahib Shrine at Khanyar on June 25. In the past, National Conference used to hold a public rally at the graveyard but the plans were shelved this year.
Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron and former state Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and senior party leader Tariq Ahmad Karra also paid homage to the martyrs.
All the roads leading to the graveyard were sealed off by police to prevent the separatist Hurriyat Conference leaders from holding a rally at the venue.
