Paying tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 96th birth anniversary, Congress leaders in Jammu and Kashmir today warned the people against "communal and sectarian forces" who, they said, were out to "distort our history and secular fabric".
The Congress leaders, at a function here, described Indira Gandhi as a dynamic leader who was committed to secular and socialist ideals of the party.
Remembering the country's first woman Prime Minister for her "supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country", the Pradesh Congress leaders called on the people to be vigilant against "calculated attempts to twist historical facts".
"There are calculated attempts to twist the historical facts about the role, contributions and achievements of the Congress and its leaders," they said.
The leaders pledged they were committed to safeguard the interest of the nation by educating the masses about the designs of divisive forces.
