JK govt orders magisterial probe into custodial death

A magisterial probe was today ordered into the custodial death of a youth in Khour police station of the district for which three policemen have been suspended.
Harbans Lal of Kalari village of Jammu was found dead in the police station yesterday, three days after he was arrested.
SHO of the police station and two other policemen were suspended later and a departmental inquiry was ordered.
Today, the Jammu and Kashmir government ordered a magisterial probe into the death.
"A Magisterial Inquiry stands initiated Under Section 176 CrPC into the death of Lal in Khour police station," a police spokesman said here today.
"Lal complained of chest pain, after which he was rushed to a hospital at Pallanwalla for treatment and from there he was referred to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital Jammu for treatment," he said.

The post mortem examination of the deceased has also been conducted, the spokesman said.
Scores of villagers, including relatives of the deceased, had yesterday held demonstration in front of the mortuary of Government Medical College here and demanded action against the erring police officials.
They accused police of torturing Lal.
