JK Health Dept asked to set up generic drug stores in 6 months

"I want the two initiatives in place soon to ensure fool proof arrangement for procurement, testing and supply of quality equipment and drugs to health institutions and availability of medicines to the patients at lowest rates at genetic drug stores," Omar said, chairing the 5th meeting of Task Force on health sector reforms here yesterday.

The Chief Minister also gave nod to launch of Jammu and Kashmir Health Referral Transport Service-102 to ensure easy and timely access to an ambulance by the people by dialling single Toll Free Number 102.

"This will help to avail timely medicare during health emergencies and accidents and reduce chances of deaths," he said.

The Chief Minister said all the districts of the state would be covered under the scheme and out of the existing fleet of 800 basic life support ambulances, 400 ambulances will be networked to operationalise the scheme.

"Each ambulance will be fitted with GPS devices to monitor the positioning and travelling of the ambulance from the operational room of the service," he said.

The Chief Minister directed for launch of more powerful 108 ambulance service after 102-service to cater to the needs in accident prone areas including national highways and other circumstances of high emergency nature.

Omar also gave nod for roping in the support and consultancy from United Nation Operations Project Services (UNOPS) to achieve the target of reducing the child mortality under National Rural Health Mission.

"The necessary steps should be taken to get Union Government's clearance for availing this service," he added.

The Chief Minister laid emphasis on early launch of projects by the Health and Medical Education Department for setting up of Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Plants one each in Srinagar and Jammu.

"Rs five crore has already been earmarked for the purpose," he said, adding a comprehensive scheme to ensure proper disposal of bio-medical waste of entire Kashmir and Jammu divisions should be operated by the department.
