JK official arrested by SVO for fund embezzlement

A Jammu and Kashmir government employee was arrested by the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) in Kathua district in connection with a corruption case.
The action was taken against Mohinder Singh on the basis of the verification conducted by SVO regarding allegations of misappropriation of funds totalling Rs 9,21,735 from the store of Block Development Office (BDO)-Block Barnoti in Kathua district.
Singh was posted as storekeeper at BDO Block Barnoti, Kathua. A case under J&K Prevention of Corruption Act was registered in the incident in 2012, SVO spokesman said.
The official records of about 6 years were seized from the store as well as the office of Block Development Office, Barnoti and scrutinised by the vigilance organisation as part of the investigation, he said.
"It came to the fore that the accused official of BDO Block Barnoti by abuse of official position with ulterior motive, misappropriated huge quantity of cement and steel meant for various infrastructural developmental schemes of the Rural Development Department (RDD) causing loss to state exchequer," the spokesperson said.
Singh, who is at present posted as Senior Assistant in the Office of Assistant Soil Conservation Officer, Dayalchak(Kathua) has been arrested by SVO, he added.
