CPI(M) in Jammu and Kashmir today alleged that the administration was slow in responding to the needs of people affected in recent floods and sought immediate intervention of the state government for rehabilitation of flood-hit people.
"We express serious concern over the slow response shown by the administration regarding natural calamities faced by the state especially Kashmir Valley. We call upon the state government for an immediate intervention for rehabilitation of flood affected people," state secretary of CPI (M) Ghulam Nabi Malik said here today.
The CPI(M) leader urged the government to initiate both short and long-term measures to deal with the situation arising due to water-logging and floods, and said that the encroachment on river basins and embankments pose a serious threat.
While expressing grief over the deaths caused by the landslides in Budgam, Baramulla and Doda districts, the CPI (M) leader took a strong exception to the "delayed" response in evacuation shown by the administration.
He claimed that many deaths could have been prevented, if the administration would have acted promptly and evacuated the vulnerable families in the area.
He also immediate disbursement of ex-gratia to the families who have lost their near and dear ones in the landslides.
"The agriculture crops have been immensely damaged in Jammu region due to incessant rains inflicting huge losses on the farmers who needs to be compensated adequately," Malik stated.
