Accusing the state and central government of forsaking victims of cross-border firing, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party workers staged a protest here demanding relief for affected families.
"The Central as well as the State government has forsaken the victims of cross border firing. They have failed to provide succor to the border residents of Jammu region who need immediate relief and compensation as promised by both the governments," JKNPP Chairman, Harsh Dev Singh said.
Singh alleged that no compensation was provided to the next of kin of people who had been killed in cross-border firing on October 6, 2014.
He demanded allotment of plots for each family at safer zones, ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakhs each for the families of people killed in Pak firing and Rs 5 Lakh each to the family of the injured.
The JKNPP chairman said Pakistan in the past had been pounding the forward villages all along the International Border and the Line of Control with heavy shelling which had caused immense misery to the people inhabiting such areas.
"The border residents were living in horrifying circumstances and the BJP partnered State government has paid no heed to their plight and misery," he said.
