Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today called for abolition of interview system in government jobs alleging "large-scale corruption" in the process of selections conducted by various recruitment agencies.
"There is large scale corruption, favoritism and nepotism in the selections conducted by various recruitment agencies for government jobs. We demand change in recruitment policy for state government jobs by abolition of the interview system and making selections on the basis of academic merit," JKNPP chairman Harsh Dev Singh said here.
He alleged that there were several instances where process of interview was abused and merit subverted by awarding disproportionate marks to the tail-enders.
"It was established that helmsman who appoint their favourites as members of the recruitment agencies and then use the said members for getting favours for their blue eyed candidates in the viva voce thus vitiating the sanctity of the entire selection process," Singh said.
He said intervention of top bureaucrats and ministers in the selection process has become a routine feature of all selections, creating great disillusionment and unrest amongst the educated unemployed youth.
Citing an instance of recently notified selection list of candidates for teachers post in district Jammu, Singh alleged that two daughters of a former bureaucrat having 10+2 qualification been selected as teacher by awarding them high marks in interview and ignoring several others with post graduation and B.Ed degrees.
He claimed that there were many more instances where candidates with lesser qualification and merit had been given the benefit of viva voce and meritorious candidates rejected.
Seeking the abolition of interview process particularly for class 3 and Class 4 posts, Singh said that this would ensure transparency in the selection process besides restoring the faith of unemployed youth in the system.
