Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) has called for Jammu bandh on Saturday against the government's decision to grant ex-gratia to the family of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani's brother, killed in militancy-related incident in the Valley.
The party also held anti-government protests today and burnt effigies of several BJP MLAs.
Led by its chairman Harsh Dev Singh, the party activists staged a demonstration against BJP-PDP coalition government at Exhibition Ground here for "appeasing the secessionists, militants and other disruptionist forces."
"We call for Jammu bandh on Saturday in this regard. We appeal to the traders, civil society and various social and political organisations to observe complete shutdown on Saturday as a mark of protest against the highly obnoxious move of the government to glorify the militants," Singh told reporters here.
Expressing anger over government's decision to clear ex-gratia to the next of the kin of Khalid Muzaffar Wani, killed by the Army in an "encounter" in Buchoo forest area of Tral on April 13 last year, the JKNPP leader alleged that BJP has "cheated the people of Jammu."
"Khalid was an OWG of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit operative in Kashmir who met his fate and deserved no mercy," Singh said.
