In the survey, conducted by the Union Ministry of Urban Development, Jammu scored a distant 251st rank and Srinagar 241st.
The JKNPP activists led by its chairman Harsh Dev Singh staged the demonstration at Exhibition Ground here and torched the effigy of the BJP and sought immediate resignation of Singh, who also holds the portfolio of Minister of Housing and Urban Development (H&UD).
Dubbing it as a "shocker" for the people of Jammu and an "eye opener for the power intoxicated BJP Ministers", Dev regretted that the city of temples had been converted into a "pit of garbage" and its pathetic unhygienic condition could only be attributed to the "inefficiency and imbecility" of the Saffron leaders who were mandated to power by the people of this region.
The JKNPP chairman said that Singh had lost the "moral authority" to continue and needed to resign in the face of "shocking disclosures" made by the Centre.
