"The action has been taken against them in view of their continued acts of omission and commission, which tantamounted to gross indiscipline and anti-party activities, harming the interests and maligning the image of the party," Congress unit spokesman Ravinder Sharma said here.
He was referring to the suspension of three party leaders Gulchain Singh Charak, Abdul Gani Vakil and Prem Sagar Aziz by the Central Disciplinary Committee of the AICC headed by A K Antony.
"The action by the party high command follows ample opportunity to such leaders to mend their ways. The same had become unavoidable and long overdue, which is the right step to ensure the required discipline, essential in any organization, for its smooth functioning," he added.

Sharma said the allegations were just an "after thought" and "more or less a vain attempt of face-saving exercise" by them.
"It is unfortunate that instead of repaying back to the party, at a time when it was desired, they indulged in unwarranted activities for their own self at the cost of party interests," he said.
The JKPCC expressed full-faith and confidence in the "dynamic leadership" of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi "under whose leadership the party is strong and vibrant".
