Judicial First class magistrate (JMF) Talo Potom was appointed specifically to try the ongoing and pending cases of attacks on media persons and media houses by state government as assured by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki to the media fraternity, official sources said today.
The ten accused arrested by the Capital police in connection with the April 15 Arunachal Times vandalism case appeared before the court on Saturday last for recording their confessional statements.
The bail application of one of the accused was heard on Monday.
On hearing the pleas quoting section 12 of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 that the accused was a minor, the JMF, in his order, directed the chief medical superintendent of Arunachal State Hospital here to constitute a medical board to determine his age and submit the report within a week.
The JFM also directed the police to keep him in safe custody till the receipt of the medical report, before posting the next hearing to August 7 next, the sources said.
