JMM staged a demonstration here today demanding immediate arrest and suspension of BJD MP Ramchandra Hansda following CBI raids on his residence in connection with the multi-crore ponzi scam in Odisha.
Slogan shouting activists led by former JMM MLA Ajen Murmu and party leader Debasis Marandi burnt effigies of the Lok Sabha MP and Chief Minister Naveen Patnak in front of the collectorate here.
They submitted a memorandum to the Additional District Magistrate, Mayurbhanj, Suratha Mallick, alleging that Hansda, who represented Mayurbhanj Lok Sabha seat, had "looted the hard earned money of the poor."
"It is unfortunate that an MP of the ruling party of the state is involved in the ponzi scam. He may be immediately arrested and recommended for suspension from the membership of Lok Sabha", the memorandum said.
CBI had conducted a raid at Hansda's residence in his native village Bisoy in Mayurbhanj district along with raids in other places belonging to two politicians on Thursday.
Besides Hansda, other leaders whose places were raided are ex-BJD MLA Subarna Naik and ex-BJP MLA Hitesh Bagarti.
CBI sleuths had conducted raids on the office bearers of two ponzi companies - Nabadiganta Capital Service Limited and M/S Rose Valley Group of Companies -- at several places.
The agency has been probing the activities of at least 43 ponzi companies, including Saradha Group in Odisha, following a Supreme Court order on May 9.
